Public Education

”Education either... is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity, or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.

UAAMAC’s goal in this effort is to encourage and support radical reform in the public education system and create a system that will educate our children to be academically competent and socially and morally responsible. UAAMAC will accomplish this by:

  • Identifying and analyzing the systemic factors that created this dismal system
  • Researching promising models and educational interventions
  • Mobilizing the Community to address issues in the public education arena
  • Working to develop structures to train teachers in the most current education modalities, with an emphasis on cultural competency
  • Creating a village culture or ethos which reinforces the importance of education
  • Creating and maintaining dual tracks in high schools – one: in preparation for college and the other – preparation for a successful career in the skilled trades; while ensuring the mental and material equality of both tracks.
